What's Actually in a B2B Database: 2 Million Contacts Audited

Across 2,037,030 B2B contact records counted exactly after deduplication, 17.3% are flagged as decision-makers, 52.6% have an email address on file, 40.2% have a phone number, and 44.8% carry a seniority classification.

Key finding

Across 2,037,030 B2B contact records counted exactly after deduplication, 17.3% are flagged as decision-makers, 52.6% have an email address on file, 40.2% have a phone number, and 44.8% carry a seniority classification.

What we measured

B2B data vendors sell contact counts: fifty million profiles, two hundred million records. What those numbers never come with is field-level composition: how many of the records can actually be emailed, called, or matched to a person with authority.

Reachium operates a B2B lead database as part of its platform. This study audits it, field by field, and publishes the composition, including the parts that a marketing page would leave out. We are publishing our own database's gaps because the gaps are the industry's actual story, and no vendor-neutral version of this table exists.

Methodology

Exact counts, single snapshot. Every figure is an exact count (not an estimate) from one read-only snapshot taken 27 August 2026. The database went through a large deduplication and cleanup pass in mid-August 2026, so these figures are not comparable to any earlier count of the same database; they describe the post-cleanup state, which is also why the totals should be treated as the honest ones.

Denominators. Unless stated otherwise, shares divide by the full 2,037,030. Field presence means the field is non-empty; presence says nothing about validity, which for email is measured separately in our email verification study.

The decision-maker flag is internal and derived. It is a stricter rule applied on top of the seniority classification, not an independent measurement; a companion study takes that flag apart. The data-quality score is likewise an internal completeness-and-validity measure, reported for transparency, not an industry-standard metric.

Read the table as a funnel of usability. A little over half the records have an email on file at all. Two in five have a phone. Fewer than half carry any seniority signal, and about one in six clears the stricter decision-maker bar. The inverse of the headline is the quotable fact: more than four out of five contacts in a two-million-record B2B database are not flagged decision-makers.

The company universe behind these contacts is audited separately in The B2B Company Universe: 933,544 companies, of which only 13.93% carry an employee-count band.

What this means

When a vendor quotes a raw contact count, the usable fraction for any given motion is a minority of it. Email-based outbound can address at most the 52.57% with an address on file, before deliverability removes more (of the addresses that have been verified, 54.0% came back valid). Phone-based outbound starts from 40.24%. Authority-targeted campaigns start from 17.28%.

These are not failings unique to one database; they are what assembling B2B data from public and enriched sources produces. The difference between vendors is mostly which of these numbers they publish, and the honest baseline for the industry is closer to this table than to any marketing page. That is the sense in which a two-million-contact database is really a 350-thousand-decision-maker database wearing a bigger number.

In practice

A RevOps lead sizing a campaign from a list purchase should apply this table's shape to any raw count before promising volume: a "100,000 contact" segment implies roughly 53,000 emailable records and roughly 17,000 flagged decision-makers if the segment mirrors the database (derived from the shares above). Segments filtered for seniority up front will run richer, and smaller.

A founder comparing data vendors has a concrete question list from this table: what share of your records carry a verified email, a phone, a seniority classification, a company link? A vendor that will not answer with denominators is answering anyway.

Limitations

One database. This audits Reachium's own lead database. Other vendors' composition will differ with sourcing; the claim is not that these shares are universal, it is that they are measured, which no competing number we can find is.

Presence is not validity. An email on file may bounce; a phone may be stale. Email validity has its own study; phone validity is unmeasured.

The two internal measures are internal. The decision-maker flag and the data-quality score are our own constructions, defined above and in the companion study, and comparable to nothing outside this database.

The cleanup matters. Mid-August 2026 deduplication removed records; earlier drafts of this research quoted larger totals with softer definitions. This version supersedes them, and any figure from before the cleanup should not be cited alongside these.

Composition drifts. Records are added and enriched continuously. These are exact counts for 27 August 2026, not a standing quantity.
